Brooklyn Family Photographer | The Weiss Family

I recently took a short break from doing family sessions to focus on taking workshops and doing mentoring with some great photographers. So I was really excited when Jessica said she was finally ready to have her family pictures done. Jessica has been my closest friend since I was 9 years old so to be able to photograph her family is something that I couldn’t pass up. Its hard to imagine so many years have gone by since we used to play with dolls and talk about boys. And now she and her husband Teddy have 3 gorgeous, fun kids! The weather drastically changed to fall this week so I am thrilled that this family got lucky with the last licks of summer. It was still in the 80’s that evening. Now its 20 degrees lower! I have to say that family sessions with young children can typically be quite challenging, but these 3 kids were amazing! I truly felt a connection between all of them during the session and knew they were having fun, which to me is the most important part of a family session. I want a family to look back on these photos and have found memories of that day. I want the parent to look at their children’s faces and see genuine smile. I am so glad we were able to do that.

What else can I say? I really was a magical session, beautiful family, happy kids, adorable outfits, perfect weather, gorgeous sunset light! Here are a few of my favorites from the session.

NYC Newborn Photographer | Lila

I am so grateful that my job allows me to get to meet so many beautiful families and watch them grow through the years. When mom and dad walked into the studio and uncovered the car seat canopy my job dropped! There were a few reasons for this. Lila was stunning, and second, she was 10.6 lbs of squishy chunk! She is the biggest baby I have ever photographed so I knew this was going to be a fun adventure for me. I quickly realized that the outfits I planned out for her were going back into the closet. I thought to myself “should I pull out my 3 month old outfits??”. So that’s what I did and then the fun began! Lila was such a good baby. She posed so well for a bigger baby and barely made a sound. Her cheeks are amazing and soft and perfectly round. I am sure mom is going to be having a lot of fun dressing this cutie up.

NYC Maternity Photographer | Brooklyn Maternity

I absolutely love maternity sessions. When a woman finds out she is pregnant so many things start going through her mind. You start thinking about how your family will change, what your baby will look like, how you other children will get along with their new sibling. Once the baby comes, its so easy to forget what being pregnant was like. You have memories and visions of how you looked. But I can tell you from my own personal experience, that if not for taking monthly belly pictures in my bedroom each month, I really wouldn’t remember what my body looked like. That’s why when women contact me about a maternity session I get really excited! There is nothing more beautiful to me than a woman carrying a baby in her body. Every woman seems to glow when she is pregnant. To be able to capture that is truly special to me.  I can’t wait to meet this baby soon.

Brooklyn Newborn Photographer | Devorah

I love newborn sessions! When I get to see the baby twice in a month, its even better! The first time they came, dad couldn’t join due to work so we had the family come back almost a month later and you can see from the family picture at the end that sweet little Devorah wasn’t so little anymore! That small little 2 week old was not a chunky little girl. Big brother joined us for both sessions and I have to say, most two year old don’t cooperate very well in newborn sessions, but as you can see, he totally rocked it!

Brooklyn Newborn Photographer | Baby Asher

Asher is here!! My cousin finally had his baby and our family couldn’t be more excited for the new parents! When I found out they were expecting I was overjoyed and couldn’t wait to know if they were having a boy or girl. I’m so glad he arrived safe and adorable. During the session Asher was the perfect little model. He slept for most of his session but even when he was awake, he didn’t fuss or squirm around like other newborns do. In stead he laid there calming taking in his surroundings. He seemed to be taking in everything from the environment almost like a 6 week old baby would, but Asher was only 7 days old!

5 Things Moms Want for Mothers Day – Brooklyn Photographer Asks

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching and if you are a husband or loved one you might be scrambling for ideas of what to get that special mom in your life. So to make things a bit easier, I asked my clients to tell me what they really want for this Mothers Day.

Here are some of their answers:

1. Pampering

5 things moms want for mothers day

When you are a mom you naturally take care of every one else first, its just what we do. So for mothers day, many moms just want a day to be pampered and be able to take care of some of their needs. We want to get our hair and nails done. Maybe we want a spray tan or me might want to try out a new facial place. Whatever it may be, moms want to look and feel their best. So treat mom to a day where she can go to her favorite salon and not have to worry about who is taking care of EVERYONE else.

If you are looking for some local trendy salons to try out, check out this list from Vogue.com

       2. Alone time/Relaxation

5 things moms want for mothers day

There are times when a mom just wants to be left alone, to sleep in late, to sip tea or coffee in peace, to finally read that book that has been sitting on her nightstand. Give mom a day to recharge her batteries and trust me, your entire family will be happier. You could also surprise her with a day at a spa to get a massage or maybe she can finally try out that yoga class her girlfriends were talking about.

If your looking for a great place to get a massage in Brooklyn then you have to check out Natural Balance. I have been there several times and I love it.

3. To shop till she drops

5 things moms want for mothers day

Women like to shop. Period. What women like even more is than having the entire day to go shopping either alone or with other females, is to be able to do it guilt free. Don’t make her rush back at dinner time to cook a meal and bathe the kids. When mom gets home, the kids should be sleeping and the dishes should be washed (ok, at least put them in the dishwasher lol)

4. A break from tedious every day tasks

5 things moms want for mothers day

As a mom, there is nothing more frustrating than the pile and piles of laundry that seem to collect faster than we can clean them! Oh, and socks that need to be matched up sitting in a shopping bag waiting for someone to come find their match, so sad. Dads, this is where you need to take charge and let mom have a break from laundry and other household tedious task. If you cant hire someone to come in and do it then get the kids together and make a game out of it. Who ever finds the most matches of socks wins!! Let mom go out for lunch with her friends, and allow her to come home to a tidy clean place, where she doesn’t have to look at mountains of clothing all over the house. Its really just the little things sometimes.

5. LOVE

5 things moms want for mothers day

Whats better than love?!? Sometimes moms just want a day to relax and hang out with the ones they love and do something fun together. Think about an activity you can set up with your children like painting on canvases outdoors. Have each child put a hand print on a canvas for mom, dad should take pictures of this precious moment, since we all know that moms are usually the ones taking the pictures of the family. Then when its all done, hang them on the wall and you will always have something memorable to look at.

Check out pinterest for some great painting ideas to do with your kids – PINTEREST

Speaking of memorable to look at, what some moms really want is a beautiful family picture. Now being that I am a photographer and loved this answer and think its a great idea for dads to schedule something like this as a surprise for mom. Its doesn’t even have to be a formal photo shoot. You can always have a photographer capture you in your element at home, baking in the kitchen together, playing on the swings in the backyard. The point is to make new memories that you can cherish forever.

I am sure there are hundreds of other things moms want but it sure was fun to hear what my female mommy clients would like. For me, I would love to have a day at six flags with some friends and not having to wait on any lines. I just love fast roller coasters!

Feel free to leave a comment about other ideas you have!
